The Clyde Lines

Manali Nilawar

Her hands trembled to catch the scene

0h! What a wonderful moment this has been,

So she decided to put her foot down

And create the view in and around,

She set her canvas by the Clyde's bay

Adamant to paint till the sun's last ray,

The day has been sunny, windy and rainy

She knew this frame was captured by many,

Her strokes filled the sheet black and white

Rendering the bay's panorama from day to night,

She drew the elements that made the skyline

And thought she would name the collage 'Clyde Line',

Her pen synched with the texture of the paper

She started with the cranes those at the top taper,

Then frame was the shipyard by the riverside

That has been inspiration to many artists worldwide,

During industrialisation, there started production

Painters thought documenting it was a good notion,

They painted it in watercolours or oil painting

And repainted as the landscape was ever changing,

She remembered what she read about the history

And wavered her strokes to sketch the distillery,

Beyond the the river they stood giving out the fume

It moved towards the rainy clouds matching its tune,

The sketch is produced initially by line and form

Then the added lines that defined the storm,

She mixed the media and added some charcoal

That sat in between to make the panorama whole,

She got influenced by the artists of the past

And how they produced the artwork left her aghast,

They portrayed the scenic beauty and its charm

That inspired her to use the orange warm,

Then took a breath when the papers were filled

Onlookers appreciation made her feel thrilled,

She was glad that she put her foot down

And recreated the view in and around.
