I came to Strathclyde in 2018, and am now finishing my third year here following specialised A-Levels in Product Design and the History of Architecture. I have a small background in sustainable technology through work placements in the past, which is always beneficial to take through to any career, architectural or otherwise.

As an architecture student I have always been fascinated by the history of the built form and how we can conserve and maintain these relics of our past. I am particularly interested in how we can resurrect and refurbish old buildings into something that can be of benefit to the local community. Architecture is deeply rooted in the past, so rejuvenating much loved parts of history will always be at the forefront of my work, as opposed to demolition and rebuilding - which removes the character and history of a place.

Through my Design Studies in Third Year I have produced two projects: the first providing apartments and working spaces for an urban gardening community in Glasgow, and the second providing a futuristic way to combine the old and the new - through creating a performance space built around the Old Caledonian Railway Viaduct over the River Clyde. Technology Studies has combined these projects with 'real world' mechanics through technical detailing, sustainable systems and through materiality.

Within Cultural Studies, my focus has been on how people respond to buildings over time. My first project bodes the question of whether it's environment or circumstance that creates or breaks a community, and my second questions the future of church buildings as a source of music (through church bells) based on a trend of decline over the last 100 years.
